მეტად მნიშვნელოვანი და საინტერესო მოვლენები ვითარდებოდა ბათუმში 1921 წლის მარტში. უკვე სრულდებოდა წითელი არმიის მიერ საქართველოს ოკუპაცია, დამოუკიდებელი საქართველოს მთავრობა ბათუმში იყო გადმოხვეწილი და ერთის მხრივ ქემალისტური თურქეთის ემისართა ხრიკებსა და აშკარა აგრესიას უმკლავდებოდა, მეორეს მხრივ კი ცდილობდა საბჭოთა ოკუპანტების წინააღმდეგ ბრძოლის ხაზი შეენარჩუნებინა. ამ პერიოდში ქართულ ჯარს ღირსებასა და სახეს გენერალი მაზნიაშვილი თუ უნარჩუნებდა და ჯერაც სამხედრო წესრიგით აკავებდა მტერს სადღაც რიონთან.
